Like my blog, it focuses on the trials and tribulations we all face in life and the business world. My goal is to help you live with more passion, work with greater focus, and lead with extraordinary influence.

My co-host is Rich Gee, one of the best business & executive career coaches out there. I’ve known Rich for years and have collaborated on many successful workshops with him throughout the U.S..

Why Psycho Career & Career Psycho? First, we wanted to catch people’s attention and imagination with the title. We didn’t want to do “Biz Talk” or “On The Road” or “Marketplace with Mabel” — we wanted a title that caught your imagination and honestly conveyed what’s happening out there in the world right now. It’s crazy! There are psychos out there!

Also, we wanted to cover what Rich is — a business and executive career coach — and me — a psychotherapist/life coach. So it fits!

We hope to make this a fairly regular podcast (hopefully weekly!). But for now, we are testing the waters and seeing where the rapids take us.

Our first podcast topic is ‘Bulletproof Your Career’ – how to keep your job and succeed in these tumultuous times. Rich and I cover the four areas critical for every person out there to keep their wits about them while making their way up the ladder of success.

We would LOVE your feedback – tell us what you think!

So without further ado . . . here’s our podcast!

Sounds TOO GOOD to be true, right? Well it is TRUE and there are even scientific studies to prove it!! It's . . . POSITIVE THINKING!!

In fact there is a whole scientific movement called POSITIVE PSYCHOLOGY!!! Yes! How you answer that age old Pollyanna-istic question "Is your glass half full or half empty?" determines a lot!

Turns out it really IS ALL in the way you look at things! Please don't misunderstand me, I'm not talking about "positive affirmations" although I love all things "positive," affirmations are a whole other story! They are a bit more complicated. I'm talking about accepting that life may have dealt you a tough hand and you "choose" to think positively about some aspect of it and then actively choose to do something positive about it. The key points here are: choice and taking positive action, kind of like that old saying "when life gives you lemons, make lemonade!"

Did you know that we each have approximately have 60,000 THOUGHTS A DAY!

(Semanticists have somehow figured this out YIKES!)

Just imagine if MOST of your thoughts for one day were NEGATIVE, or anxious or worrying!

How do you think you'd FEEL at the end of that day?

YOU'D feel pretty darn BAD! It's NOT rocket science, just do the math. Sadly, many of my clients do feel bad, but I can start to help them begin to shift and feel better, by teaching them to "positively reframe" their thinking!! It's actually one of the most scientifically researched methods that therapists use and it's called Cognitive Behavioral Therapy or CBT.

Simply put, I help people get rid of their "STINKING THINKING"! Out with the old way of thinking and in with the new more positive way of thinking! And, if you're not positive by "nature" the good news is, it's a skill YOU CAN LEARN and acquire, like riding a bike!! And like riding a bike it just takes, PRACTICE, PRACTICE, PRACTICE!! But it can be done!!! Plus, it's time and effort WELL SPENT.

Still skeptical? There's a great book called Positivity by Barbara L. Fredrickson, Ph.D. It's full of "groundbreaking research which reveals how to embrace the hidden strength of positive emotions, overcome negativity and thrive." As Wayne Dyer so wisely said, "CHANGE YOUR THOUGHTS--CHANGE YOUR LIFE!"

"You're not a hamster and your life is not a wheel."

Many of my clients today are encountering this issue — they feel their lives are being controlled by outside forces.

GET OFF THE WHEEL!

What do I mean by that? People are being driven by their 'shoulds' — They can't say NO.

They overschedule. Themselves. Their children.

They overvolunteer.

They over-socialize.

They overpromise.

They over-work.

And guess what happens? It blows up in their face.

They get exhausted, angry, frustrated, stressed-out, sick and then they collapse. What part of this is fun or productive?

My solution: GET OFF THE WHEEL!

Simplify your life. Cut out at least one thing from your schedule.

Every time you book something, stop & ask yourself, do I want or need to do this?

Resign from one volunteer position.

Stay home and order a pizza and rent a movie.

Have a "don't drive the car weekend."

If you just take one of these simple suggestions I promise you'll feel

SO MUCH BETTER!
